Cafe Abu Salem

Café Abu Salem was opened in 1914 by Andros Abu Salem when he was 14 years old, and is the oldest café in Israel. Everything in the café has remained the same since its opening. It is currently run by Wissam the grandson of the original owner, who took over in 2007.

Café Abu Salem continues to serve its traditional drink made form cinnamon, freshly crushed walnuts and a secret spice mix, along with other soft drinks.

Café Abu Salem is very popular with locals in particular who come here to drink coffee and play card games and backgammon. There is also a longstanding tradition here in which the loser of the round buys everyone drinks.
